National News: A historic and symbolic moment in Maharashtra’s political landscape is set to unfold on Saturday, as Raj Thackeray and Uddhav Thackeray, who have walked separate political paths for nearly two decades, will come together in support of Marathi language and identity. The much-anticipated event will take place at 10 AM at the NSCI Dome in Worli, Mumbai, marking what many see as a celebration of Marathi unity.
The trigger for this unexpected reunion was the proposed three-language policy by the Mahayuti government. Both Raj and Uddhav strongly opposed the policy, arguing that it undermined the significance of the Marathi language. Their joint resistance pressured the government to suspend the proposal, which is now being portrayed as a "victory for Marathi pride." The upcoming event is being organized as a public celebration of this success.
Organizers have made seating arrangements for 7,000 to 8,000 attendees inside the NSCI Dome. To accommodate overflow crowds, LED screens have been installed outside the venue and along surrounding roads. A large turnout is expected from Marathi authors, poets, teachers, editors, and artists, showing the deep cultural significance of the occasion.
Although officially branded as a cultural event, the rally has sparked political speculation, particularly in the context of the upcoming Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections. BJP leader Narayan Rane dismissed the unity as a move for political survival rather than genuine cultural concern. Meanwhile, Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) leader Ramdas Kadam criticized the former Uddhav-led BMC, claiming it neglected Marathi interests and drove locals out of Mumbai.
Notably, NCP founder Sharad Pawar and Congress leader Harshvardhan Sapkal were invited to the rally but are unlikely to attend. According to MNS sources, Sapkal could not be reached, while Pawar—despite being in Mumbai—has chosen to distance himself from the event.
MNS leader Prakash Mahajan sees the rally as a positive sign of unity among the Marathi community. He believes the event could lay the foundation for future political collaboration between the two parties—an idea that has already started gaining traction among supporters.
The reunion of Raj and Uddhav Thackeray is more than just a symbolic cultural act—it carries significant political implications. As both leaders navigate challenges within their respective parties, this shared platform could be a stepping stone toward strategic alignment. Whether this moment marks the start of a new political era in Maharashtra remains to be seen, but for now, it has undoubtedly reignited curiosity and conversation across the state's political spectrum.
